The NCAA decided, in their infinite wisdom, to hold the College Hockey Championship in Florida this year. My bet is that it will be a mistake given that College Hockey here is non- existent and only one large market College is represented here this year.
Boston College has to be the favorite but if they don’t make the finals this Saturday, the rink might be empty.
One of our favorite things to do on our annual trek to the Final Four is to explore the city and fine dining establishments. On our second day we visited Ybor City and it’s historic district.
The first semi final finished Ferris State 2 Union College 1 and it was pretty boring actually except for the last few minutes. Randy arrived in time for the game after his American flight was cancelled due to hail damage from yesterday.
On Friday, Dave and I met Gene and Teresa and they took us out on the bay on their boat. We stopped at one of the many bars and restaurants on the shoreline and enjoyed a fabulous Good Friday fish lunch. Afterwards we toured around the bay in their 27 foot boat enjoying the beauty of the area.
After returning to our Hotel and getting dressed up, we took a taxi to Bern’s, a world famous Steak House, and the seven of us had a very good meal and lots of fun.
Bern’s has the world’s largest stock of wine with over one million bottles in stock. At one time it was where the mob hung out. The second floor is an amazing desert and coffee bar and after a tour of the kitchen we spent another hour in one of the many private dining rooms on the second floor.
On Saturday we visited the History Building and then went to Ybor City to listen to some great street music until the Final Championship Hockey Game started at 7:00 pm. Hanging out with my best friends is absolutely the most fun!
A very exciting game resulted in a 4–1. Boston College victory which was the expected outome.
The Dallas Stars, on the other hand, lost out in the playoffs once again due mostly to a failed power play effort. I will not shave my new beard until they score a power play goal. Looks like that will be next season!
